Did you know that generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is advancing at lightning speed? We are excited to share that the Career Planning and Development’s SkillsFirst system recently upgraded its AI capabilities to provide an enhanced resume-building experience. The new AI tools, called GPT AI in SkillsFirst, can help take your resume to the next level by providing valuable resume feedback. They can also accelerate the process of customizing your documents to specific job descriptions to showcase your qualifications and help you stand out from other applicants.
The GPT AI resume review tools are organized into seven steps with the flexibility to move through the steps in any order and skip steps if you like. To use the GPT AI tools, you will first need to create your resume using one of the templates provided in the SkillsFirst system. Follow the step-by-step SkillsFirst Resume and Letter Guide to build your resume using one of its custom samples.
After building your resume in SkillsFirst, you are ready to apply the GPT AI tools to transform your document! Watch this short video to get started.
Learn more about how SkillsFirst’s GPT AI tools can help you advance in the job search process:
- Compare keywords in the job description to your resume. Based on this GPT AI analysis, you can include keywords that match your experience to increase the chance of your resume moving through Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and on to review by a hiring manager.
- Tailor your experience section to fit the job requirements. GPT AI can analyze the job requirements and provide suggestions on how you can tailor your experience section. When editing your resume based on AI suggestions, always ensure that any changes you make accurately reflect your experience.
- Identify skills gaps. Analyzing gaps in your experience or education based on the job requirements allows you to proactively explore strategies to fill those gap(s) or compensate with other skills or experiences. Running this analysis also allows you to check if there are required skills you have but did not include on your resume.
- Demonstrate your fit with the company culture. This step will give you a response on how well your resume shows that you are a fit for the culture of the organization.
- Resume review. This step provides overall feedback on your resume and specific feedback regarding spelling, grammar, clarity, consistency, achievements, and quantifiable results. This step does not require a job description to run the analysis.
Note: We suggest running this step first if you would like to improve your resume quickly without a job description.
- Prepare a pitch for an interview. SkillsFirst included the
selast two steps to help you prepare for interviews. Having a polished pitch for an interview that describes who you are as a professional can help you make a good first impression. Be sure to review the pitch and edit it to make it your own before using it.
- Prep for a job interview. This final tool can help you prepare for interview questions and customize your responses with thorough but concise examples. Similar to the previous step, edit the GPT AI response to accurately reflect your career story and convey your communication style.
