December 31st was my last day as a Walden Graduate Assistant. The finale was bittersweet. It marks the end of my terminal degree journey – yet – it is also the end of my work for a wonderful team of dedicated professionals. I’m a living, breathing example of just how good the Walden Career Planning and Development team is.
In the six years since being hired at Walden University as a Technology Graduate Assistant, I have advanced my career through several roles as a Teacher, Director of Educational Technology, and my current role as Chief Technology Officer. Would you like to know one of the key reasons I’ve been able to advance my career? The skills I learned as a member of the Walden Career Planning and Development team.
My skills were refined thanks to Walden staff members, Angie Kukielka and Dina Bergren. Angie and Dina taught me everything I know about the curriculum vitae and resume. The lessons came in many forms: career advising sessions, webinars, job directories, and resume templates. I’ve never forgotten Angie telling me to go into an interview to “have a conversation – they want to get to know you!” That subtle change of perspective is the biggest reason I began doing well in interviews. What before felt like interrogation, became a much calmer conversation.
The Walden Career Planning and Development team has worked for years to build a deep library of career resources. Their work can set you on unexplored career paths. They can show you how to shine as your best self in interviews.
I’m proud to have had a small part in the work of the Walden Career Planning and Development team over the last 6 years. I encourage you to check out the Walden Career Planning and Development site. Take the famous “How Can We Help You?” survey (yes – I helped build it!) to get some powerful, personalized career guidance.
Thank you to the amazing team at Walden University for a great 6 years!
